I showed up a little early on Thursday to observe her in her music class for a while before picking her up. When I peeked in the window, all of the kids and music teacher were dancing around the room to a song. They seemed to be having a good time, while K was sitting in the middle of the floor reading a book and not participating. I am the first one to admit that K marches to the beat of her own drum and is not one for peer pressure, but I want her to have fun at school.
On Monday, we had a playdate with one of her school friends. I am hoping that a few friends at school will make the experience a little more positive for K.
On Tuesday this week, she woke up congested with a runny nose and so we decided to keep her home from school. Even though we think it's allergies, we didn't want any of the other parents mad that we brought a sick child to school.
We talked about school last night before bed while picking out her clothes. She seemed ok with it and we didn't have any tears. This morning, however, she outright refused to get dressed. I had to wrestle with her a little to get the sunscreen on, clothes on, and teeth brushed, before we rushed out the door. When we got there, we were late for music time, so I told her that I would stay until snack time. She not only would not let me out of her sight, I could not be more than a hand-holding's length away from her. I definitely think she has more fun there when she's not worried about when I'm going to leave her.
So, after snack, I kissed and hugged her goodbye and told her that I would be back in a little while. She immediately got upset and started crying and screaming as before, but this time, the crying stopped before I was even out the door of the school. When I peeked back into the window, her teacher was wiping her tears away and she seemed to be calm already.
When I picked her up, they told me that she did not cry today after I left, and that she had a good time. I was so relieved!
We got home and she was so happy and playing with her toys.
K was in such a good mood, she even started singing!
