Nous avons arrivé à Paris!!!

We woke up early, (sadly) said au revoir to our favorite Beaulieu-sur-Mer apartment, and headed to Nice airport to fly to Paris. Paris had a record high temperature on Friday, so we were expecting to face even hotter temperatures than in the South. However, we arrived to overcast, breezy, wonderful weather!

We headed straight to our hotel, but our room was not ready. So, off we went on a driving tour. We stopped at Sacré Cœur, Montmartre, and saw many other sights.

Our last stop was a guided tour at Notre Dame. Our tour guide was originally from Canada and was great with the kids! K learned that Notre Dame took 182 years to build! It went through so many architects that it is unknown who drew the original plans. The builders also developed new technologies in construction as they went along (flying buttresses, Dada and B’s new favorite phrase!), so they had to go back and rework some of what they had started originally. We also learned about the stone masons and how they would mark their work with their own personal symbol. On payday, they would count up their symbols to get paid for the work they completed. The kids were troopers and listened for intently (B, with the promise of ice cream after!). B learned « all about the church »!

After the tour, we headed to Berthillion for the best ice cream in Paris. Of course, they were already closed for their summer holiday (the month of August!), but lucky for us, their ice cream is sold at many shops along the way! We found one and B got his reward! It was delicious! The ice cream was K’s favorite part of the day!

We came back to our hotel, where we quickly changed for dinner at Chez Julien. We sat on la terrace, and Patrick ordered an incredible bottle of wine. Unfortunately, the tables were a bit wobbly and he ended up wearing half of it! And I wore an entire bottle of water! But the food was outstanding! The kids devoured 2 orders of truffle ravioli, and then their steaks! Eating the ravioli was B’s favorite part of the day!

We arrived back at the hotel just in time for the light show at la Tour Eiffel, which we can see from the balcony!
