We started reading the first Harry Potter book a few weeks ago and are about 2/3 through. K loves the book, but B would rather read any other book! Anyway, I was definitely most excited about the tour of the three of us, as Dada had to work today.
After a rough start and a quick breakfast (we slept past the one at our B&B), we took an Uber over to the Greyfriars Bobby statue to start the tour. A lively bloke in a Hogwarts cape lead the way with lots of inside information about J.K. Rowling’s beginnings and her inspirations for the book. We saw McGoneghal’s plaque and the school that inspired Hogwarts school, which also has 4 color-coated houses within. And we saw the gravestone for Valdemort...very exciting stuff! However, on our way out of the cemetery, we somehow got entangled with another group tour and lost sight of our tour guide...by the time we realized, we were totally lost. I was so sad, but the kids were bored already and we were only about halfway through. The next HP tour wasn’t until 4:00, so we were onto the next.
There are many brightly colored tour buses flying around Edinburgh all day long, so K has zeroed in on them and thought it would be a fun and relaxing way to spend the afternoon. We were on the upper deck, had fresh air and amazing views, and we learned a lot (well, K and I did!) on the way.
K’s favorite part of the day was riding the bus, and she learned that the fountain at the Palace of Holyroodhouse is only on when the Queen is staying there, which only happens about once per year. B’s favorite part of the day was going on the tour bus, and he learned about Harry Potter.
We leave early tomorrow for Nice, but there is so much more to see here....I hope we get to come back again!
