We went to the doctor today for K's 3-year check-up and everything went great! She is 41 inches tall (98%) and weighs 41 lbs. (98%)...such a big girl! Since she was all caught up on her vaccinations, she did not have to get any shots today, which she was so excited about!
She also had her first vision and hearing tests, which were kind of hilarious for a 3-year old. For the vision test, they show them 4 shapes to pick out on the chart (instead of letters, since their letter recognition is not perfect yet). One such shape was extremely confusing; a cross between an apple and a heart, if you can picture that. Needless to say, K got all of the others right, but called the apple/heart a circle every time it appeared. She still scored 20/25 for vision, which is well within the normal range for her age.
K's hearing test was even more hilarious. The directions weren't very clear for a 3-year old who is experiencing a hearing test for the very first time. She didn't quite understand that she was supposed to give Mama a high-five every time she heard the beep....she would only give Mama a high-five every time she heard Mama. At one point, I asked her if she could hear the beep, she kept saying no until finally she said, "It's too loud!"
We talked to Dr. Sullivan a little about her sleeping issues, and he said to stay the course with quiet time...the nap may return (yay!). He said that lots of kids her age have sleeping issues due to the development of their imagination and fears. K has quite the imagination, especially when it's time to sleep. She has a whole zoo in her bed, she reads them books, she tells them stories, and generally just has full-on conversations with all of her stuffed animals and dolls.
We also discussed the pending arrival of Baby M. He said that K should be involved as possible in everything having to do with the baby, including the nursery, shower, etc. He also said to make sure that her routine stays the same after the baby arrives. For example, we need to make sure that her bath and bedtime routine remain consistent without the baby present...this may present a little bit of challenge when Dada has to work late! Let's hope this baby is a sleeper!
K did so well today and I am so proud of our big girl!
