K is growing like a weed in every way possible and we really can't believe our eyes (or ears)! She is growing out of clothes faster than I can get them washed, ironed, and on her body! She is wearing a size 4 in some brands and she is very particular about what she wears. If I attempt to put a dress on and she is not in the mood, we get a full-blown, terrible-two's, lay-down-on-the-ground-and-pound-the-fists tantrum until the dress is taken off! This poses somewhat of a problem, considering that she is to be the flower girl in Auntie M's wedding in less than 5 weeks. It is quite a scene, and is sometimes not limited to dresses; it could be pants, or even a particular T-Shirt that she just does not want to wear. Poor Grandma Mimi will be dressing K for the wedding...pray for her!
K is counting from 1 to 16 (the number of stairs in our house!), and slowly learning her way up to 20. It gets a little fuzzy after 16, but we're working on it. K is repeating EVERYTHING we say, so we have to be very careful! She is VERY interested in possessive nouns and phrases (I think that's what it's called, but some of my teacher friends can correct me if I'm wrong): "Mama's shoes," "Dada's shoes," "Ten-tee's shoes" (Kensley's shoes); "Mama's hat," "Dada's hat," "Ten-tee's hat". Sometimes, she will go through everyone she knows for a particular item. And sometimes, she just declares that everything is her own. For example, she loves to try on my shoes and most of the time, she will correct me if I say they are Mama's shoes, and claim them as her own.
K is very opinionated and not afraid to tell you what she wants: "Mama drive, Dada buk-hole" (Mama will drive, while Dada sits next to me in the back seat and buckles his seatbelt). If Dada forgets to put on his seatbelt, K will remind him every second until he puts it on....a great reminder for him!
K is a pretty good sleeper. She goes down around 6:00 p.m., and sleeps for about 12 hours, and then takes about a two-hour nap. Every once in a while (or when we're traveling), she wakes up in the middle of the night and won't go back to bed unless it's in bed with us. Trust me when I say that it's a last resort, but sometimes, we all need to sleep. When it does happen, and no matter how we may put her to bed, she ends up horizontally between Patrick and I, like a letter "H". And although it is difficult to sleep, she always wakes up happy! And she will take my face between her two little hands, smile, and say, "Mama? Num-in-nas!" (food!). No matter how horribly I slept, I cannot help to smile back at her, kiss and hug her good morning, and follow her demands.
Before we left St. Louis, K tried out the razor scooters in DeeDee and Grandpa Shelby's basement. She had a blast and I was impressed by her skills! And she's definitely ready for Halloween in her matching sweater and hat!
