She is obsessed with Frozen (we have Frozen everything!), and really loves her American Girl doll. She loves to dress her doll up and do her hair in the special salon chair. She even has a few of the matching outfits for herself, so that she and her doll can dress alike. K has named her American Girl, Elsa, of course. She has also re-named her fish, Elsa (from its former name, Dude), and a number of other stuffed animals, Elsa, as well. It seems to be very popular these days. K loves to pretend, and some of her favorite games are playing Store, House, Showtime! (the movie theatre), Restaurant, and Airplane. She also loves to play make-believe in her doll house, with trains, trucks, and princesses.
K recently started loving "big-girl Legos," the kind meant for 5-12 year-olds. She's really good! We already have a few princess masterpieces in the dining room from her meticulous and dedicated determination. She also loves art, drawing, painting, and crafts. She often asks me to draw or color with her, and can spend hours at the kitchen table with paper and markers or crayons. She sometimes even likes to take them outside.
We started reading chapter books a few months ago during our read aloud time before bed. Our favorites so far are those from The Magic Treehouse series with Jack and Annie. She begs to read just one more chapter every night!
She really loves music and dancing, especially to the top 40 hits, so we are still huge supporters of KidzBop (today's hits sung by kids with kid-friendly words...I love it!). She is loving Taylor Swift, e.g. "Shake It Off" and "Blank Space". She also really likes Meghan Trainor's "All About the Bass" and Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk." She often engages B in dance parties in the living room and wants to hold his hands and dance (which usually upsets him a little). But he loves to dance and sing along with her, and even knows some of the words to her favorite songs!
She only wears dresses and skirts (with leggings or shorts underneath) and lives for summer clothes. She prefers short sleeves or a tank top and flip-flops to anything else, and it's like pulling teeth to get her to wear a jacket (since we finally have some cooler weather and rain this year!). She picks out her clothes every single day. I definitely have to pick my battles and only try to initiate negotiations if we're going somewhere important where maybe a pink leopard dress and pink camo leggings aren't appropriate.
We have tried a few times to ride her bike without training wheels. She does great, but gets a little scared and frustrated, so we're still working on it. She still attends ballet, swimming, and soccer. She also goes to Saturday School for French and sees a French tutor once per week. She's really starting to enjoy French, and it's so amazing to see how much she is learning. Even B is learning some of the French songs! She goes to preschool 3 days per week, with Friday being a half-day. She really loves school, and is even starting to recognize some sight words for reading. Her teacher told me the other day that she recognized the word,"button," because our Aunt Pat and Uncle Steve's dog is named "Buttons". Crazy!!!
For her big day, we decorated her door with streamers, and had all of her presents waiting for her when she woke up.
She couldn't wait to start opening her presents, of course! It was a long wait for Dada to come downstairs!
B decided to go '70's style with his shirt unbuttoned. These are his absolute favorite jammies right now. He calls them, "Tsoo Tsoo," (Choo Choo) even though they have planes on them, and not trains.
K loved her American Girl outfits for her and Elsa from DeeDee and Grandpa Shelby!
And she was absolutely ecstatic about her Hello Kitty CD player from Auntie Lauren!
She received some new Big-Girl Legos from Mama and Dada, along with some new dresses and skirts.
She was super excited about the long, soft, hippie dresses! Not so excited about the skirts.
Mimi came over to watch B while K and I had some Mommy-K time for her birthday. And Mimi brought presents!
K has been wanting this peacock dress for weeks, and has asked about it every single day..."Is today the day that I get my peacock dress?"
She finally got it from Mimi and Grandpa Bill, and she could not be happier about it!
Such cute pictures of the kids with Mimi!
So, Mimi took B to the park, and K and I went to get our nails painted! Then, we headed to her favorite, Chipotle to meet Dada for lunch! She was so happy to be with Dada!!!!
I love this...
When we got home, it was dance party time! She put on her new dress, and put her new Frozen CD in her new Hello Kitty CD player and walked around the house, singing and dancing...
B jumped in, too.
Then she took a rest (while still listening to Frozen). She likes it super loud!
Her besties, Keaton and WyWy came over for a little play date, her birthday pizza dinner, and cake! She has been planning this for weeks...what they were going to eat, what they would do, and what she would wear. She asked me every five minutes all day, "How many more minutes until Keaton and WyWy come over for my birthday?"
We sang to her and she blew out all five candles...it took a few tries, but she did it! Then, she wanted us to sing again! Just like when she turned 1! More, more!
B thought it was pretty interesting!
And I got a quick shot with my girl!
We love you, sweet girl! And we cannot believe what a beautiful, amazing, talented, intelligent, kind, and thoughtful young girl you have become! We are so excited to celebrate this day with you and so proud to be your Mama and Dada!
