More of our Annual Trip to St. Louis

Since Dada was working during our first visit to Tucker's, he was able to join us for lunch with DeeDee and Grandpa Shelby. K really liked the toasted ravioli!

Even though Grandpa Shelby does not allow any other kids to play in the Tucker's fountain, he did not bat an eye when K started playing in the fountain! And only raised an objection when she began to take her shoes off to dip her toes in...she's my California girl!

She was not supposed to throw any rocks in the fountain either, but I think she did under the guise of cleaning them. Grandpa did not say a word.

There's the mischevious grin...

And just to try to get into her good graces once more, Grandpa Shelby gave her chocolate!

However, I think his plan backfired a little when she immediately started running around his restaurant!

Then it was game day! This is the third year that Dada has played as Grandpa Shelby's partner in the member-guest tournament, and the third year that Dada has planned their team uniforms. Last year, Grandpa mentioned that he wanted their outfits to have a little more color. Dada took it to a whole new level!

Meanwhile, K and I headed to the park for a playdate with a few of my girlfriends from high school and their adorable kiddos.

The park where we met is St. Louis' own "choo choo park," K's favorite park here at home. We were a little early, but while we waited, a train came by and even stopped at the station to pick up passengers.

K loved every minute...

Then our friends arrived. Here she is with O,...

...W,...

... and V.

K and V were instantly inseparable. They rode the merry-go-round with W,...

...swung,...

...and watched as the cargo train passed.

It was so great to catch up with my friends and to watch our kids play together! I wish we could get together more than once a year!

The next morning, K woke up bright and early and helped DeeDee water all of the flowers. She had the best time and was such a big help!

Then we went to lunch with our good, family friends, Jeff, Heather, and Sydney. K and Sydney hit it off right away, as  K was so taken with her.

Syd is going to be such a great babysitter.  I actually got to sit down, enjoy my lunch, and catch up with Jeff and Heather!

That night, we went to dinner with DeeDee and Grandpa.  While I was not able to take any pictures of the evening, I have a story that I must share.  To preface my story, Grandpa had a little bit of a hard time winning K's affections this trip.  He tried really hard, and did everything he could to win her over.  He gave her chocolate and cherries, he played his guitar and sang to her, he let her play in the fountains at home and at the restaurant, and pretty much let her do whatever she wanted.  On the way home from the restaurant, we planned to stop for frozen yogurt, which K refers to as a "treat."  K and Grandpa had a conversation on our way that went a little like this:

K: "We go and get a treat in my car?"
Grandpa: "This is my car."
K: "No!  My car!"
Grandpa: "No, my car."
K: "No! My car!  Mama, is this my car?"
Grandpa: "You're so cute!"
K: "No!  I'm cute!"
Grandpa: "No, I'm cute!"
K: "No! I'm cute!"
Grandpa: "No, I'm cuter!"
K: "No! I'm cuter!"
Grandpa: "No, I'm cutest!"
K: "No cute! I'm pretty! Mama, I'm pretty!"
Me: "Yes, sweetie, you are so pretty!" (laughing hysterically)

Hmm.  I wonder why Grandpa has such a hard time?!

On our last day, we all went swimming in the backyard and relaxed a little before heading to the airport. We were hoping for a good, long nap on the airplane, so K had lots of fun before we had to go.  Here she is taking a last ride in her vintage "coo-coupe" and eating a lollipop...does life get any better?!

And then, DeeDee let her dig in the dirt a little while they planted some new flowers.

K then cleaned the rocks one more time in Grandpa's fountain...just to make sure they were clean!

We had an amazing (and surprisingly relaxing) trip to St. Louis this year and we cannot thank Grandpa and DeeDee enough for letting us take over their house and for all the fun! We miss them so much and can't wait to see them again soon!
