He is in his last year of preschool before he's a big Kindergartner! He's not a huge fan of school, and does ask to stay with me multiple times per week, but there are usually no tears. Once he sees his friends, he is off to play and will willingly go to his class with just one (or four!) more hugs and kisses! He was not exactly embracing the French language...he would wait the teachers out and act like he did not understand until they spoke to him in English. But a few weeks ago, something clicked! He is listening, speaking, and following directions in French more in class, and is even more interested in learning French. He asks questions all the time, "How do you say it in French?"
B is riding a bike with no training wheels, and started skateboarding class after school in January. He is the youngest in the class, and his instructor says that B has balance like he's never seen before! He absolutely loves it, and even practices in the back yard. He will set up cones to skate around, and try new tricks or turns.
B is still playing ice hockey and recently started T-Ball this season. He is a Washington National in his little league (we wish it were the Cardinals!), and it is so cute to watch! When their team is in the field, it's pretty much a one-to-one ratio, parents-to-kids, in order to direct the play and tell the boys what to do when the ball comes their way.
B loves Lego Ninjago...he builds the Legos, he watches the show on Netflix, and he pretends he is a ninja. He wants to start Jiu Jitsu classes with a few of his friends, so we will start those after Spring Break. In the meantime, he joined a boys' hip hop class with a bunch of kids from his school. They are learning a routine to the Star Wars theme, light sabers and all, so he is all in!
He is a carnivore, through and through! I do not think he has met a meat that he didn't like! He loves steak, pork, chicken, fish, bacon, salami, and even beef jerky. All he wanted for his birthday dinner was ribs! So, ribs is what he got! Patrick took off early from work just to cook his ribs on the Green Egg for hours. B is not really a sweets guy either. For his school birthday, he wanted to bring watermelon (again!) and pears due to the gluten-free diet of some of his classmates, even though I told him that I could buy gluten-free cupcakes. He did the same last year, and I am always impressed that the kids are just happy to celebrate a birthday and have a snack....no sweets required! Although, he was adamant that there be a goody bag, so everyone in his glass received a Hot Wheels.
Sleeping is still a struggle with B. We thought that his adenoid removal in February would help, but he still does not want to go to sleep, stay asleep, or sleep in come morning. Although it has helped immensely with his snoring. We used to hear him snore throughout the entire house, and now, I often have to check to make sure he is still breathing because he sleeps so quietly! I have to say that he still ends up in our bed quite often due to our own exhaustion!
B is very sweet, kind, generous, and super funny and smart kid! We love watching him grow and mature, and see new aspects of his personality each and every day! We cannot believe he's 5 years old, and we are so proud of him!
B could not be wait to open his presents!
I took watermelon, pears, and Hot Wheels for his school birthday!
Then, skateboarding!
As a treat, Dada picked him up from class. He was too excited about his birthday to nap at school today, so the minute he got into the car...
Mimi, Papa Bill, and Baxter came over for dinner...
Ribs!
Dee Dee and Grandpa Shelby sent him dinosaur blocks, which he could not wait to open!
He liked his new clothes...our little surfer!
And then we sang Happy Birthday!
