K is 8 Years Old!

K turned 8 years old and I just can't believe it!  I will get her stats shortly, but the last time we went to the doctor, she was 4'6 1/2" tall!  She wears a size 12 in clothes and a size 4 1/2 shoe (sometimes a 5!).  She is still wearing skirts or dresses almost every day, but has recently ventured into sweatpants (with a t-shirt and hoodie).  She loves her Birkenstocks and flip-flops, and has recently started wearing glasses for reading and homework.

K is in 2nd Grade and LOVES school! She has a spelling test each week in English and a Dictee in French.  In French, she has to memorize one poem (poesie) per month, and present it to the class.  In English, she just completed her very first Book Report on a book called, "Whatever After, Sink or Swim" about a little girl and her brother who have a magic mirror that transports them into fairy tales.  She loved the book so much that she asked for the whole series for her birthday!  In math, she is working on complex addition and subtraction, as well as multiplication and geometry, money and time.  She studies math in both French and English.  Her favorite class is pottery on Mondays!  And she looks forward to visiting Anne's (the school librarian!) Library each week.

K played recreational soccer in the Fall (Dada was her coach!), and she just made the competitive soccer team this year, with practices starting next week.  She really enjoys soccer and is super excited to play all year!  She also adores figure skating.  Now that she is recovered from her broken ankle, she is excelling really fast and loves to go just for fun! She also still loves art, ceramics, and pottery, and anything crafty, of course!  She received a kit for Christmas to publish her own book, so she is writing a book, too! And she LOVES to go to the library!

K loves to ride her bike, go to the park, and just play outside in the backyard, sometimes, even making mudpies (although, they usually have a fancier name!).  She and B still love their playhouse, and sometimes will play outside until it's dark and I have to make them come in!  Since B started riding his bike without training wheels, it's been so fun to go on family bike rides and both kids have such a blast!

K is obsessed with Disney Descendants right now, so the majority of her birthday list was Descendant -related, as well as her chosen birthday party theme.  She loves the movies, the music, and even wanted to lip sync one of the songs in the talent show...unfortunately, we needed a little more time to practice, but maybe we can put something together for next year's talent show!  She loves to dance and has recently mentioned going back to ballet lessons after taking a break since last spring.

K loves animals, and especially dogs and cats.  She plays with her stuffed animals every day, takes them with her everywhere, and sleeps with them at night.  She will not part with any of them!  I sometimes joke that if we ever lose her, it will be because she is lost in her mound of stuffed animals!  She also loves real dogs and puppies.  She asks for one of her own almost every day!  Luckily, Mimi and Papa Bill have Baxter, and Dee Dee and Grandpa Shelby have Stella.  K takes really good care of Baxter...she takes him for walks, feeds him, and even cleans up after him.  When we are dog-sitting, he sleeps by her bed, and she's the only one that he will follow.  And our first week with Stella, we had to ask K to give her breaks....I thought she was going to pet Stella's fur right off her back! She is definitely an animal lover...she even talked about becoming a vet for a while.  Only time will tell!

K woke up to presents!

She wanted her birthday outfit to be her new shirt from Auntie Lauren!

K you as so excited about her new books, “Whatever After”. It has been my dream for her to love books!

Girls Who Code!!! Right on, Uncle Bri!

This is her Mal doll from Dee Dee and Grandpa Shelby...she is obsessed with Disney’s Descendants!

And Cee Cee and Papa got her a new charm for her charm bracelet...

For her birthday dinner, K wanted to go to Pizza Port in Solana Beach...likely for the Golden Tee and the quarter machines with the plastic junk!

B liked the motorcycle game...

We love you so much, sweet girl, and we are so proud of you!  Happy Birthday, love!
