There is just something about being in St. Louis in the summer, and especially for the 4th....the smell of the grass after it rains, frozen custard on a balmy night, and fireworks purchased from a tent on the side of the highway just outside the county line. It all makes me nostalgic for my childhood and I love having the kids there, especially in the house where my Dad has lived for 25 years. We swam almost every day, bbq'd on the grill, rollerskated in the basement, went for custard, ate at Tucker's (and made Dad bring it home from work on more than one occasion), and went to Fair St. Louis for the fireworks on the 4th (no environmental regulations here, folks!). We were able to spend a lot of quality time with Dee Dee and Grandpa Shelby just relaxing, which was so wonderful! We saw some family and friends, and even took the kids to their favorite museum. Patrick lit fireworks in the driveway, but I made him take a break after every few for fear that the cops would show up! But the kids loved every minute! Even Auntie Lauren drove down from Chicago to spend the 4th with us! And we loved seeing MaMa...it's always a blessing and a pleasure to spend some time with her! We had an amazing trip and we can't thank Dee Dee and Grandpa enough!
