K had her first day of art camp today. This woman has been holding these art camps in her backyard studio in Cardiff for over 30 years! A friend of mine went when she was a child, and now sends her daughters. The yard and studio are like something out of the Secret Garden with all types of plants, flowers, and little places to sit. And the studio is breezy and shady with a beautiful wrought iron gate, and a bathroom that used to be the kiln...so cool!
I signed K up for the half day camp because she's always shy about new things away from home. Her friends were all staying the full day, so I thought she might want to stay to finish her art projects. I told her I would return at lunchtime and she could tell me then if she wanted to stay.
On the way to camp, she immediately told me that she wanted to stay all day, but when we arrived, there were a few tears. They introduced her to her buddy (a high school student who would be helping out), and told her she would be making a lamp, and she was all smiles after that. None of her friends had even arrived yet, and she let me leave her without even a tear!
When I returned at lunch, just as I suspected, she smiled and said that she wanted to stay! And when I picked her up, she was so happy! I asked her to smile for the camera, and this is what she gave me...
