Today is the Day

For weeks, even months, I have researched, discussed, and prepped. I am ready for today, but the question is.....is K ready?! We will soon find out. We have so much going on in the coming weeks, but we had nothing to do this weekend, so I decided it was time to attempt the dreaded potty training. I made K some potty charts (10 times in the potty and she gets to go to the zoo or ride the train), and got the bunny snacks ready to go. I have purposely told her all week that she is almost out of diapers.
When she woke up this morning, she immediately wanted her diaper changed. I took off her diaper, but then I told her that Dr. Sullivan said no more diapers so that she doesn't get any more boo boos on her bum (she's had diaper rash for weeks from antibiotics for two ear infections and bronchitis). So she threw the diapers in the trash and picked out her big girl pants for the day, with a little more convincing, of course.

Here's a little bit of our morning: 9:00 a.m. Potty = 0, Pants = 0 (I was worried that she might be holding it.); 10:00 a.m. Potty = 0 Pants = 6 (Not holding it anymore and I started to think that maybe this was a bad idea.); 11:00 a.m. Potty = 5, Pants = 0 (Much better!). We got into a rhythm where she would say, "Mama, the pee pees are coming," and I would race her to her potty. She had bunny snacks and gummy bears galore for the entire hour. And she even started doing a little potty dance when I would praise her for going in the potty.
We ate some lunch and got ready for naptime. During lunch, I told her we would have to clean up her toys before we went upstairs for naptime. She said, "Dr. Sullivan said no more clean up." I had to keep a straight face, painfully, to tell her that no, he did not. Boy, does she have my number!

After naptime, she went backward a little, but then it got better. And of course when it was time to go to bed, she went and went in her usual method of procrastination. She kept standing up in the crib shouting "Go pee pee in da potty!" How do you say no?! We had to go an get her about 3 times, and each time, she actually went in the potty. By the time she finally stayed in bed, she was only one a way from a trip to the zoo and totally burned out on bunnies!

Even though it has been a very stressful day on all of us, she's doing great and we're so proud of her. Hopefully, she will keep it up and we'll be going to the zoo and riding the train by the end of the week. Either way, I am proud of her for trying so hard!
